The Boishakhi Mela (Bengali) বৈশাখী মেলা , romanized: Boishakhi Mela, lit. 'Fair of Boishakh') is a Bengali celebration (mela) which takes place outside of Bangladesh. It is celebrated by the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada as well as many other countries with significant Bangladeshi populations. In London, it takes place across the area of Banglatown in Tower Hamlets. The festival runs through Brick Lane to Weavers Fields and Allen Gardens in Bethnal Green. The event is a celebration of the Bengali New Year, with musical and cultural events held. It is the largest open-air Asian festival in Europe and the largest Bengali festival outside of Bangladesh. History of Pahela Baishakh - Pohela Boishakh 1427 Pohela Boishakh 1427 P oila Baishakh (Bengali: পয়লা বৈশাখ , here and there sanskritised as Pahela like the Hindi elocution) or Bangla Nabobarsho (Bengali: বাংলা নববর্ষ , Bangla Nôbobôrsho) is the main day of Bengali Calendar. It is praised on 14 April as a national occasion in Bangladesh, and on 14 or 15 April in the Indian conditions of West Bengal, Tripura and part of Assam by individuals of Bengali legacy, regardless of their strict confidence. The celebration date is set by the lunisolar Bengali schedule as the main day of its first month Baishakh. It hence quite often falls approximately 14 April consistently on the Gregorian schedule.
